Term 4

Week 6
Dog Safety- Today we met Keira and Chase and they taught some tips about being safe around dogs.

Keira

The Golden Rules are:
  1. Always ask the owner before patting a dog.
  2. The best place to pat a dog is on its back and sides.
  3. We should stand like a tree if we are scared and a dog is coming towards us.

We should also remember that dogs don’t like many of the things that we don’t like- like hugs from strangers, pulling hair / fur.

Chase

We practised the golden rules with Keira and Chase.

Week 4 & 5

We have been busy testing to see how much we have learned this year. Everyone has done incredibly well. Ka Rawe Room 23!

Next week we are making posters to represent a habitat of our choice. We will be using coloured card, paper, tissue, cellophane, stickers to create a background that looks like our chosen habitat. Then we will glue on animals that live in that habitat. Please can you help us by finding small plastic toys and / or stickers that can added to our habitat. Kia ora for your help with this.

Here are the habitats we have chosen and our ideas of what we could bring.

Week 3: The Best Week Ever!!
We have such a busy and exciting week this week. We are excited to share our learning with you.

Monday: Stu Duvall Storyteller.
We started our great week with a visit from author Stu Duval. He  was very funny. He turned the letter 'a' into a cartoon of his dad and the letter 'e' into a grumpy parrot Ernie.

Stu also helped us to learn to draw. There are more drawing videos at Studuval.co.nz

He shared where the ideas came from for some if his stories. Stu told us a story about a monster in Louie's bedroom- The Little Green Book Monster. He drew a picture with chalk onto black paper while he talked.

Tuesday: Auckland Zoo
Our wonderful week continues with our trip to the Auckland Zoo to learn about how animals are suited to their habitat.

We spent time in Te Wai Nui with our Educator Frazer. We learnt to look for the shelters, food and water sources of our native animals. We saw how the flowering native plants were the "kitchens" for the birds and the shelter for insects.
We explored then forest floor habitat for Tuatara, gecko and skink.
Then we went into the Ngāhere, the forest.

Here is a short clip of some of highlights from our day. The tiger was incredible.

Wednesday: Tennis
In our second lesson this week we learned how to do a forehand swing.

Wednesday: Music with Mrs Kelly
We had another session of Music with Mrs Kelly today. We got to use the Boo Whackers and we played a song called Popcorn by following along with a video.

Thursday: Science with Mrs B
We are learning about the impact of the sun and moon on our  heat and light.

Week 2: Kiwi sport Tennis

Thanks to Kiwisport, we get to have 4 sessions with a tennis instructor.
In our first session today we played some awesome warm up games.

We learned our first skill: the volley. Here is a video of us practising this skill during a Rapid Fire session with our instructor.

We are looking forward to our next session next week.
